What is your role in Springfield Public Schools?

“I have been the counselor at Pittman for 16 years. I have also been the counselor at Jeffries, Doling, and Sunshine. This year, in addition to Pittman, I am the counselor for the Academy of Exploration and one virtual kindergarten class.”

How many years have you been with the district?

“My first teaching position was third grade at Boyd Elementary. I taught there two years before moving to St. Louis, where I taught fifth grade in Affton for nine years. I returned to SPS as a school counselor. I have been with SPS for a total of 22 years.”

What is one of your favorite memories from your time in SPS?

“My favorite part of being a school counselor is spending time with all students during classroom lessons, and my Career Days with community guests are fun. I also love having former students return to Pittman to share updates on their experiences and well-being.”

What is something you will miss about SPS?

“Pittman staff and students are my family away from home, and they will be missed.”

What advice would you like to share with those who are not retiring this year?

“This year has been challenging to say the least, and my advice would be for teachers and staff to recognize and congratulate themselves for the strength, resiliency, and growth it took to teach in a pandemic. Pittman teachers love their students and worked so hard to meet physical, academic and emotional needs. Stay strong Pittman! Be there for each other!”
