Springfield Public Schools and Foundation for Springfield Public Schools are currently accepting applications for the 2023-2024 SPS Ambassador program.
SPS Ambassadors in Class 3 will have the opportunity to learn more about the school district, meet with key leaders and participate in tours of schools and programs. This engagement opportunity is intended to deepen understanding of SPS, its programs and services so that Ambassadors can be effective advocates for Springfield Public Schools, its employees and students.
Throughout the school year, Ambassadors will engage with Superintendent Grenita Lathan and other executive leaders during quarterly meetings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The following meeting dates have been scheduled: Monday, Sept. 25; Monday, Jan. 22; Monday, March 25; and Monday, June 17.
“This will be our third group of Ambassadors to participate in this unique learning opportunity,” explained Dr. Grenita Lathan, superintendent. “Through this collaborative effort with the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools, we are able to engage with people who believe in public education and who are willing to advocate on behalf of Springfield Public Schools and its students.”
Class 2 Ambassadors were recognized last night by the Board of Education for giving generously of their time during the 2022-2023 school year. View the list of Class 2 members.
“Ambassadors get an exclusive pass to see behind the scenes of how SPS operates and and serves its 24,600 students and 4,000 employees,” explained Natalie Murdock, executive director of Foundation for Springfield Public Schools. “In past years, they have visited Choice programs like AgAcademy, participated in walking tours of the General Services Center and Transportation Center and previewed the new strategic plan.”
Individuals interested in becoming an Ambassador should apply here by Monday, Aug. 7. Ambassadors will be selected and announced in late August.
