These are all accurate descriptions of David Harrison. The namesake of David Harrison Elementary School. Students, staff, parents and community partners gathered at David Harrison Elementary School on March 23, 2022 to celebrate David’s 85th birthday!
David read to students, walked the halls, greeted guests as they arrived and of course- CAKE! It was a joyous afternoon for a treasured individual in Springfield and Springfield Public Schools.
“I hope that something I did, that I wrote, will mean something to students beyond hearing me read to them in the moment,” said Harrison. “As we bring children into the world of reading and thinking, you have to bring them into it with an experience. You need someone like me to make it pleasant and make the library a habit.”
