On Saturday, May 30 the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools (FSPS) joined the McBride Elementary family, Springfield Public Schools, and the Hostler family for the groundbreaking of Mr.Nick’s Inclusive Playground.

The playground will be built in memory of Nick Hostler. A special education teacher from McBride Elementary that passed away unexpectedly two years ago. His dream was to see kids of all abilities be able to play together.

“He would be so excited because his mission was inclusion, to get his special friends, as he called them (his students), integrated back with the community to show people what they can do.” said Gil Hostler, Nick’s father.

FSPS administrated the #BeLikeNick Fund that was established with the purpose of supporting this playground. Together, the #BeLikeNick team raised $442,000 through the generosity of our community and grants to make Mr.Nick’s Playground a reality.

The playground is expected to open in the fall.
