Karen Martin, Jarrett Middle

Karen Martin has been a Library Media Specialist in Springfield Public Schools for 24 years. During her time, she has loved working with Battle of the Books and watching her Jarrett team win twice. She will miss working with fellow librarians who devote their time and talent to encourage reading and creating welcoming spaces for all students. “I’ll miss working with the teachers at Jarrett Middle School who focus their incredible talents on their students.” said Karen.

“The advice I would give to anyone not retiring this year is that before they know it, their time with their students and their faculties will be over and they will, hopefully, realize what a blessing their time with them has been. Teachers and librarians also need to remember that they are very important.” Karen continued, “They are the ones in the building interacting with students everyday. They are making a difference with our students.”

During her last year at Jarrett, Karen was also named one of the 2021 Turner Reading Award recipients for her dedication and commitment to encouraging reading.
