Parkview High School
Originally established by Springfield Council of PTAs in 1993 to honor a respected Springfield PTA leader, Helen Smith. Helen served as Council president 1969-1971, and as Missouri PTA president 1989-1991. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating SPS senior who plans to enroll in an accredited full course of study in teacher education at a Missouri liberal arts college or university; this scholarship is rotated annually among the Springfield R-12 high schools. Recipient must show need for financial assistance and be determined by the high school’s staff scholarship committee.
In order to apply for the PTA Helen Smith Scholarship, you must answer yes to the following:
- Are you a graduating senior from Springfield Public Schools?
- Are you accepted to a Missouri liberal arts college or university (A liberal arts college or university is one that provides four-year degrees that cover a variety of subjects, like literature, art, sociology, history, philosophy, English, anthropology, math, linguistics, etc. in as part of a specific major. Some examples of liberal arts colleges/universities in Missouri are: Drury University, Southeast Missouri State University, Missouri State University, William Jewel College…)
- Do you have financial need relative to college expenses? (this should be addressed in your answers)
- Are you planning to pursue a degree in education?
If you answered no to any of these questions you are not eligible for this scholarship. If you answered
yes to each question you may proceed to the application.
