The students in the Central High School Broadcast Journalism Program (Central Intelligence) have been nationally award-winning for decades. Each year, these students travel around there country to compete against nearly 5000 other students from around the world. This year, district funding has been reduced and we need help traveling to represent SPS.
These funds will allow for the Central High School Broadcast Journalism Students to travel to the Student Television Network National Convention in Tampa, Florida, Feb. 26-March 3, 2026.
- Need Represented: For students in this advanced course, traveling to national competition and learning in that environment is vital. This funding provides a once in a lifetime experience for students to create stories against the best student media producers in the world. Further, this even allows them to connect and network with their peers and professionals around the county, setting them up for a greater level of success in the future.
- Academic Impact: Attending the Student Television Network National Convention in Tampa provides students with an intensive, real-world learning experience that accelerates their growth as filmmakers, journalists, and storytellers. Through competitions, workshops, and professional critiques, students refine technical skills in cinematography, editing, sound, and reporting while strengthening collaboration, leadership, and problem-solving under authentic deadlines. The convention aligns directly with media, CTE, and ELA standards, producing measurable gains in production quality, research, writing, and portfolio readiness. Students return with nationally adjudicated work samples, improved workflows, and the confidence to mentor peers—raising the overall quality of their school’s media program while building college and career pathways in the creative industries.
- Student Population: I have students from a diverse background, ages 15-18, represented in the program. They are truly a wide sampling of Central High School.
