Earlier this spring, the hallways of Parkview High School recently buzzed with an unprecedented energy. For the first time, a Back-to-School Grant from the Foundation for SPS transformed the school into a vibrant gallery and performance space for Parkview Arts Night. The event showcased the incredible talent of every student in the fine and practical arts programs, from intricate drawings and handcrafted clothing to live musical performances.
The impact of the evening was deeply felt by all who attended. “Parkview Arts Night was the most exciting school function I’ve been to,” shared one attendee. “Seeing the sheer amount of art transform the school and feeling the creative atmosphere was an impactful experience I’ll always appreciate.”
This sentiment was widespread. A post-event survey revealed that an overwhelming majority of students felt a stronger sense of belonging and well-being. Students discovered the hidden talents of their peers, with one exclaiming, “I just saw my friend’s artwork over there! I had no idea they could do that! This is pretty cool to see everyone’s artwork.” This newfound appreciation fostered a renewed sense of school pride and a more connected community.
Building on student and parent feedback, the inaugural event also featured food trucks and university recruitment tables, creating a true community celebration that drew over 200 people.
You Can Inspire a District-Wide Spark
The success at Parkview is a powerful testament to what becomes possible when dedicated teachers and talented students are given the resources to bring their ideas to life.
Now, you have the opportunity to fuel that same creative spark in schools across the district. The Foundation’s Back to SPS campaign is underway to fund more innovative projects for the upcoming school year. Your donation can empower teachers to launch impactful projects that give every student a sense of pride, belonging, and a vision for their future—whether it’s another vibrant arts night, a science fair that ignites a passion for STEM, or a literacy program that opens new worlds.
