- Description:
York Elementary is the second-highest Title 1 school in Springfield, MO, serving a diverse community of students and families. As part of our commitment to supporting our families, we want to provide a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy this Halloween season.
To do that, we are excited to announce our 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat event on October 25th! This event offers a secure space for families to trick-or-treat and celebrate together. It’s a great way to bring our community closer while giving kids a chance to dress up, enjoy treats, and have fun.
- Need Represented: This Trunk or Treat event is designed to meet the specific needs of our school and surrounding community by offering a safe, convenient space for students and families to enjoy Halloween festivities. Many of our families face challenges with transportation, making it difficult for them to participate in traditional trick-or-treating activities in other neighborhoods.
By hosting this event at York Elementary, we are providing a close, easily accessible location for our families to celebrate together. This not only ensures that our students can enjoy a fun Halloween experience but also strengthens our community by offering a safe and inclusive environment for everyone to participate, regardless of transportation barriers. - Academic Impact: Participating in our Trunk or Treat event can have a positive academic impact on students by fostering a sense of belonging and community engagement, both of which are critical for academic success. When students feel supported and connected to their school and peers, they are more likely to have higher attendance, better focus in class, and a greater sense of motivation.
Events like Trunk or Treat create opportunities for families to engage with the school, building stronger relationships between educators, parents, and students. This increased involvement helps promote a positive school culture, where students feel valued and encouraged, ultimately enhancing their overall academic performance and well-being. - Student Population: York is a Title 1 community school serving 230 students, with 90% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. Our student body includes 9% receiving Special Education services and 5% who are English Language Learners (ELL). We are a diverse, multi-ethnic school, and being a community school, most of our students walk to campus, which is a benefit for many families facing transportation challenges. This project will benefit all families in our area.
