- Description:
I am the lead teacher interventionist at Watkins Elementary. I facilitate the focused CARE room and provide SEL care and lessons to students individually, in small groups and in whole group setting throughout the building. I currently have 2 versions of the Ouisi game that I use in the focus room and in small groups at Watkins Elementary. These games are amazing and foster connection, diverse thinking, creativity, and more. There are also lesson plans for teachers to use whole group, small group, and in their morning meetings. These games are used in multiple professions including counseling, OT, SLT, Special Education and dementia care.
I want to buy a copy of the game for all of the classroom teachers and I will be providing ongoing resources and lesson ideas for the teachers as well as modeling the games and activities for them.
- Academic Impact: Through the work in the Focused Care Room, we have identified that our students have a need in reteaching of Executive Skills, Social Emotional skills, and building connections with each other and other trusted adults. These games provide these skills as well as fostering creativity, diverse thinking, communication skills, and relationship-building.
In addition, there are lesson plan resources for teachers to use that provide practice and skill-building across content areas. These areas include English Language Arts, Math, Science, Speech Therapy, and SEL. - Student Population: This project will provide for 285 students in a K-5 Elementary school. We are a Title-I site that has a high poverty population and many students have experienced trauma. This opportunity to connect with other students and see diverse perspectives will be beneficial for all.
