Our students and teachers are falling in love with the idea of using fun themed mini erasers for math. With sets of erasers picked up here and there, students have been exploring counting, building the foundation for multiplication and division, writing number stories, and having meaningful conversations. This project would provide the tools necessary to implement this in each classroom including special education in grades K-5.
- Need Represented: Students need engagement during math. Using themed mini erasers will allow students to explore math in a creative and engaging way.
- Academic Impact: This project will allow students to explore math in engaging ways. Students will be able to use erasers for grouping and counting collections as well as create their own number stories and build the foundation for multiplication and division. Through this students will be able to collaborate with peers and have meaningful math conversations. These erasers can also be used for math stations to support learning.
- Student Population: Westport Elementary currently has about 360 students with about 80%+ free/reduced lunch. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds that call Westport their safe learning haven.
