- Description:
I am requesting funds to purchase necessary equipment for the percussion line in the Kickapoo Golden Arrow Marching Band. The purpose is to help reduce overall fees to all students participating in marching band so that costs are lower for every family participating in the program. These percussion supplies are well-used and need to be replaced. The beat that percussion provides keeps all musicians in the ensemble in perfect timing with each other, and affects every student and the overall performance of our ensembles.
- Planned Use for Funds: The funds will be used to replace needed equipment such as mallets, sticks, and drum heads.
- Need Represented: The nature of percussive instruments is that they are used to beat and be beaten. These sticks, mallets, and drum heads are beat up and worn out. By replacing this equipment, these fees don’t need to be absorbed by the rest of the band members, keeping their costs lower so that more students can participate in the band program.
- Academic Impact: By decreasing student fees, more students can enroll in band. Student involvement in a band program has shown to increase success amongst other academic areas and they are more involved in the overall school culture.
- Student Population: Kickapoo High School is located in southwest Springfield. The student population is 1,834. The total minority enrollment is 18%, and 19% of the students are economically disadvantaged.
