Hillcrest Hornet Battalion Army JROTC Raiders Course

Hillcrest Hornet Battalion Army JROTC Raiders Course

  • Description:

Hillcrest Army JROTC is the only program of its kind Springfield Public Schools. As a part of this program, our students compete to have the opportunity to compete in a competition called “Raiders”. This is a boot camp/obstacle course style competition and our JROTC Raiders team trains all summer and fall and travels throughout the region to different Raider competitions on weekends. Hillcrest High School rests upon over 50 acres of property and has the potential to be an ideal location for a Raiders course. This course could be used for training and hosting Raiders tournaments in our region and state. The Hillcrest Army JROTC and the Hillcrest FFA program have created a plan to build this course on property by students and teachers. We have the equipment and space, we simply need the funding to purchase materials for the many different types of obstacles for this course. We have assessed a need for steel, lumber, and concrete.

  • Need Represented: Student health. Student on-the-job work experience to create/build.
  • Academic Impact: Students will be able to participate in this JROTC leadership program. Finding a connection to the school is essential for many of our JROTC students to find academic success and completion to graduation. Additionally, the AG program would have the opportunity to create and build these events learning how to pour concrete, weld, and use heavy-duty equipment to build the course.
  • Student Population: Hillcrest High School has 1,134 students.
    Free/Reduced Lunch Rate of 88.8%.
