- Description:
I received a Back to School grant to get chickens for our school. The chickens will need a stronger gate for the long run. The chickens get out. They have not started laying eggs yet and have run out of food. We are using leftovers from the students but over the summer, the chickens will need other food since the students won’t be here.
- Planned Use for Funds: We will build a stronger gate for the habitat and be able to provide more food for the chickens until they start laying eggs.
- Need Represented: The community and school have all enjoyed visiting and learning about the chickens. The kids are learning what the chickens need to survive. They're learning about sustainability and how to care for livestock.
- Academic Impact: All the students in each grade have been able to name the birds, visit the birds, feed the birds, and learn about how animals survive. Some students in my class have started writing a book about the chickens.
- Student Population: The population students are elementary students from kindergarten to fifth grade.
