Constitution Walk Virtual Field Trip

Constitution Walk Virtual Field Trip

  • Description:

Going virtual doesn’t have to mean the end of field trips! I currently teach virtual Social Studies through LAUNCH and I’d like to take some of my students (up to 50) to Philadelphia for the Walking Constitution virtual field trip: https://www.theconstitutional.com/field-trips/virtual-field-trip
This coincides with our current study of the document itself and will provide an opportunity for engagement at the highest levels of online learning.

  • Need Represented: My students come from a variety of backgrounds across the SPS district, and even in other school districts across SW Missouri and the state. Many of these students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and have no access to field trips like the one proposed. Even seated students would not be able to travel to Philadelphia in a cost effective way to see the locations and hear the stories behind the drafting of the Constitution.
  • Academic Impact: It will deepen their understandings of the historical context of the Constitution, allowing them to engage more with understanding the document itself and how it forms the foundation of our current government.

It will expose them to geographic locations that will develop their sense of spatial knowledge and awareness of the geography of the United States.

It will develop their skills with technology and its uses to engage, collaborate, and learn in online spaces, and show them the possibilities of exploring the world through technology.
  • Student Population: My students come from a variety of backgrounds across the SPS district, and even in other school districts across SW Missouri and the state. Many of these students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and have no access to field trips like the one proposed.
