Animal Showcase – Animal Research and Zoo Trip

Animal Showcase – Animal Research and Zoo Trip

  • Description:

We will research a total of 15 animals (five animals per class). Each student will choose an animal. Students will learn about where the animal lives, what it eats, and interesting facts about the animal. Students will write a research paper based on the information they learn. They will color a picture of their animal and its habitat. Students will be grouped by the animal they chose. Each group will create a large poster of their animal. Parents, staff and students will be invited to come to an Animal Showcase. Students will present their work. They will share the information they learned and answer questions about their animal.

  • Need Represented: As a Title 1 school, we are acutely aware that family finances can be tight, and we are committed to minimizing the out-of-pocket costs for our students. This field trip, which serves as the culminating activity for our animal research unit, is essential for providing our students with an invaluable, real-world learning experience. Securing funding to cover or significantly reduce the trip's cost is critical to ensure 100% participation.
  • Academic Impact: Students will be using the standards we have learned in kindergarten. They will have a hands-on learning experience at the zoo. They will work cooperatively to design and complete a comprehensive animal poster. Students will practice crucial public speaking skills by presenting their research and answering audience questions during a final presentation event, which parents are invited to attend.
