A Passion for Education and Community Engagement
The Foundation for Springfield Public Schools is proud to shine a spotlight on a truly dedicated board member, Anne J. McCormick. Since joining the Board of Directors in July 2024, Anne has been instrumental in guiding our marketing efforts, bringing valuable insight stemming from her deep personal connection to the district and her passion for supporting students and educators.
Anne’s decision to serve on the Foundation board was a natural progression after five years of dedicated involvement with the PTA. This desire to broaden her impact is fueled by her firsthand experience as a Springfield Public Schools parent; her son attends the Academy of Exploration, where she has witnessed the exceptional quality of the educators in the district. This appreciation for educators runs deep for Anne, who fondly recalls her own kindergarten teacher making her feel “loved and welcomed.”
Anne emphasizes that the SPS Foundation serves as the central hub for all fundraising, giving, and scholarships that support students, staff, and alumni. Within this framework, she finds the teacher grant program particularly inspiring. She enjoys reading the applications from educators and learning about their innovative ideas for student benefit.
One of Anne’s cherished memories with the Foundation is co-presenting the Turner Reading Teacher of the Year award at the Celebrate SPS event alongside Jill Wiggins. This moment beautifully blended her passion for education with her commitment to recognizing those who make a difference.
Anne envisions a thriving Springfield Public Schools, fostered by an engaged community and families working together to cultivate success-ready students. She believes the Foundation is key to achieving this by coordinating year-round giving and support efforts. She encourages the community to get involved, highlighting that even small investments can create significant change. This could involve encouraging a teacher, asking a principal how to help, or volunteering to read to a student once a week.
Beyond her board service, Anne is an avid reader and hosts her neighborhood book club, a fitting hobby for someone so dedicated to learning and education. She advises current students to take full advantage of the many great opportunities available within the district, from choice programs and clubs to athletics and scholarships.
We are incredibly grateful for Anne’s dedication and expertise. Her powerful message for the community resonates deeply: “Please consider investing your time and/or resources into the next generation. They are our future.”
