Springfield Public Schools and the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated members of the 2024-2025 SPS Ambassadors, Class 4. This vital program connects community leaders and parents directly with our district’s inner workings, creating a network of informed and passionate advocates for our students and staff.
Over four immersive visits, these ambassadors embarked on a comprehensive journey. Their experience began with an introduction to the district from Superintendent Dr. Grenita Lathan and a tour of the innovative Launch & Virtual Learning Center. They also visited Study Alternative School, gaining insight into crucial community partnerships like the PTA Clothing Bank and the JAG Program, which provide essential support directly to students.
The group witnessed tangible progress across the district, touring bond improvements at Hillcrest High School and learning about critical storm shelter safety measures at Watkins and York Elementary schools. A highlight was learning about the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools’ direct impact. Executive Director Natalie Murdock showcased how Back to School Grants empower programs like Kickapoo High School’s “Golden Arrow Band,” where funding for instrument repairs lowers fees for all 215 musicians. They also saw how the “Springfield Robotics” grant expanded inclusive STEM opportunities for over 100 students across multiple schools.
To cap off their experience, the ambassadors explored the district’s diverse educational pathways, learning about SPS CHOICE Programs with Director Jason Stenigraber. This included tours of the hands-on AgAcademy and the Premier Flight Center, home of the FlySPS aviation program.
We are incredibly proud of our Class 4 Ambassadors, who are now equipped with the knowledge to champion public education throughout our community.
Inspired to follow in their footsteps? Applications for the 2025-2026 SPS Ambassadors Class 5 are open until August 8.
